six months.

1/22/2018

January 9th marked our six-month anniversary of our "first night sleeping at the farmhouse".

Six months.

In some ways, it feels like that was ages ago...and in some ways, it feels like yesterday.

Over the snow days (and ice day and really cold wind-chill day) that we had off of school last week, I really reminisced about our time here at the farmhouse so far.

I started looking through some of my old blog posts and Instagram photos.

One of my most favorite memories for the rest of my life will be from 9:00 at night on the first Saturday night that we slept here.

Our minister and his wife came out and prayed over the farmhouse.  You can read about it in my blog post from that day...Bless this Mess.

Since that warm July night,
we have enjoyed family movie nights cuddled in the living room,
mornings on the front porch reading our books,
pick-up games of basketball out to the north of the house,
friends over to BBQ,
softball practice out in the yard,
and for Thanksgiving we hosted our first TWO family dinners out here.

We experienced our first farmhouse Christmas with the girls.

We have painted and decorated,
Added an upstairs bathroom,
Tore down a barn,
Added a chicken coop,
Purged belongings,
Purchased furniture.

It has been quite the journey and I know we are nowhere near "finished".
Somedays (most days), we are a mess. But we are thankful to God that he's able to bless this mess.

Thanks for following along with us over the last six months.

I hope you'll stick around for the next six months.

mattress-in-a-box: update

You might remember the first night we slept in the farmhouse, we unrolled and unveiled our mattress-in-a-box that we purchased on Amazon.

We also purchased a foundation on Amazon...spending just $417 total for the whole set.

As of last night, we have slept on the bed for a full two weeks, not counting the nights we spent at the lake.

I think we have had it long enough to say with confidence that we could not be more happy.

On our old mattress (that was 34 years old, mind you), we both had back problems. We hurt often and didn't always wake up feeling refreshed.

The first few nights of sleeping on a 12-inch memory foam mattress, I wasn't too sure.

It was quite a bit firmer than I expected and I woke up feeling a little sore on the first two mornings.

However, I also slept all night on both of those nights.

That hardly ever happened with our old mattress.

This week at the lake, I was up every single night for hours...tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position in which to sleep.

We came home last night and Ilanded in bed not feeling well fairly early.

I have to tell you...I slept all night (minus the 10 minutes at 3:30 a.m. that Mattie woke up and needed me to help her find her blankie).

I still don't feel great this morning, but this mattress provided the restful night I needed.

So as an update to the mattress-in-a-box post a few weeks ago.

We highly recommend it. ❤️?❤️

furniture love.

Today, the front door of the farmhouse opened and two high school kids were standing there with a buffet that has been sitting in my parents' dining room for the last several years.
Picture
Mom had purchased the buffet from an estate sale about four years ago.

She had told me last week sometime that she thought it would go well in the farmhouse dining room, since it had sat in that exact same spot for several years before.

That's right...this buffet belonged to the family who lived here from 1971-2013.

I love the character and story that a piece  of furniture like this tells.
Earlier this morning, before the buffet was delivered, this old pie safe was dropped off at my house.

This one belonged to an older man that lived out by my grandparents' farm for over fifty years.  He recently passed away and his son & daughter-in-law contacted us to see if we would be interested in any furniture.

I feel like this piece was just made for this wall in my gathering room.
I had a little 3-drawer chest dresser there before this and it was just "okay".  I mean, it was fine there, but nothing that I would say I absolutely loved.  I just didn't have anything better for the space.

But THIS.

This was exactly what I was looking for.

I love how the inserts on the cabinet doors with the star cutouts complement the wall color.

I love how there is a drawer and two more lower cabinets for storage.

I love that "HOME" from Dollar General looks like it really fits there.

I love that it came from a family we know and love.

I love everything about both pieces.

They were exactly what I was looking for.

Today, I made lots of progress.

I emptied lots of tubs.

Put lots of things away.

Welcomed these two "new to me" pieces of furniture into our home.

We even had some friends over tonight to join in with our chaos.

I've got two weeks until we were planning to take a lake mini-vacation.

I think I'm on track to be finished by then.

I think I can, I think I can...
