classroom spotlight: task card love

I always love finding ways to get my students up and around during a classroom activity.

The struggle comes with trying to get them moving around the room WHILE ALSO keeping them focused on what they need to be doing.

Enter: task cards.

In the past, I've used task cards a few times a year, for specific content tasks.

However, this year, my group of kiddos REALLY needs to move often, so in addition to my usual few groups of task cards, I have purchased & downloaded several sets of pre-made task cards on Teachers Pay Teachers.
I definitely do not mind spending the money to buy new task card sets and supporting my fellow teachers who are selling resources on the website.

However, it can get kind of pricey and it's not always easy to find exactly what I need to assess on there.

Sometimes it's easier to just create my own task cards.

Over the years, I have either saved or created several worksheets that go right along with the content I need to teach and that I need students to master.

This year, I decided to use the questions off of these worksheets to create task cards so I could get my kids up and moving.

Now, this is my simple Google Docs Task Card Template.

I take each question on my worksheet and transfer them to my task card template.

Then I print them, cut them, and that's that!

I use Stikki Clips with wax on the back to hang the task cards and I leave the clips up year-round.

When we are finished with one set of cards, I just take those down, bundle them up, and leave the clips for next time.
I have them use a piece of notebook paper on a clipboard.

They number from 1-24, skipping lines, and find their own task card to stand by to start.

They know that they are not to be standing at the same card as another student.

This year, I only have 16 students, so this is easy to manage.

If I had more students, I would add more task cards so each child always had a free one to go to.

You are welcome to
download this task card template and use it in your own classroom!
Just take your worksheet questions (or make up your own) and add them each to a task card!

Make sure you number the cards for easy grading!

Teachers, what other easy ideas do you have for keeping kiddos engaged this late in the year?

Happy Sunday from the farmhouse, friends.

Make it a great week!
